Reds Add Davitt and Schultz on Waivers

Cincinnati added right-handers Duncan Davitt and Paxton Schultz via waiver claims on November 2, adding two relievers to their 40-man roster ahead of its deadline.
The Cincinnati Reds acquired right-handed arms Duncan Davitt and Paxton Schultz via waiver claims on November 2, adding depth as the club approached the deadline for setting its 40-man roster. Davitt had been with the San Francisco Giants, while Schultz spent the 2026 season with the Washington Nationals.
Davitt, 27, made his major league debut with the Chicago White Sox on April 10, 2026. The Rays drafted him in the 18th round in 2022. He was traded to Atlanta in August in a deal for catcher Joey Bart, placed on waivers by the Braves in September and claimed by San Francisco on September 9. He appeared in six major league games during his career.
Across five minor league seasons, Davitt has thrown 449 innings, striking out 469 and walking 146. His main pitches are a four-seam fastball, sweeper and slider. His fastball averages 93 mph, while his sweeper averages 82.3 mph.
Schultz, 28, was drafted by Milwaukee in the 14th round in 2019. Toronto designated him for assignment in January 2026, and Washington picked him up. He appeared in 27 games for the Nationals, recording a 6.44 ERA over 32 innings, with 32 strikeouts and 12 walks. He primarily throws a cutter and four-seam fastball, averaging 88.8 mph and 93.6 mph, respectively.
The Reds’ roster stood at 37 players after decisions on contract options for Pierce Johnson and Eugenio Suarez and Emilio Pagan’s election to become a free agent. The claims give Cincinnati two additional pitchers as it moves toward the roster deadline.
