Five Trade Targets Who Could Strengthen the Orioles

On November 4, the Orioles were presented with five potential offseason trade targets, including outfielders Byron Buxton and Teoscar Hernández and pitchers Reid Detmers and Drew Rasmussen.
Baltimore came close to the postseason, remaining in contention until the final week of September. A review of possible offseason moves identified five players who could address the club’s needs, particularly in the outfield and starting rotation. Each would come with a different cost and level of risk.
Minnesota center fielder Byron Buxton hit .254 with 25 home runs and a .511 slugging percentage in 93 games. He has two years left at $15 million annually, but injuries and his age of 32 are concerns. Los Angeles outfielder Teoscar Hernández hit 16 homers in 125 games and had a 110 wRC+ last season. His 2027 salary is $14.5 million, including $8 million deferred, and the Dodgers could consider a deal to open playing time for prospect Josue De Paula.
Left-hander Reid Detmers is another potential target. He recorded a 3.36 ERA over 185 innings and struck out 211 batters. With two years of team control remaining, the 27-year-old could require a substantial return. Baltimore’s need for starters is heightened by uncertainty over Trevor Rogers’ return.
Tampa Bay right-hander Drew Rasmussen would be a more difficult acquisition. The Rays have said they want to retain him, and after a strong 2026 season he is set to earn $20 million next year. He helped Tampa Bay reach the World Series, though his injury history and salary could complicate a trade.
Arizona outfielder Jake McCarthy offers a less costly alternative. He hit .291 with 15 home runs and stole 32 bases in Colorado. At 29, he can play all three outfield positions and could provide Baltimore with an affordable upgrade.
