Halter and Bond lead Houston past Seattle for first road win

Houston beat Seattle 1-0 in Seattle on October 28, moving into fourth place in the Western Conference. Lucas Halter scored and goalkeeper Jonathan Bond made six saves.
Lucas Halter’s first-half goal and six saves from Jonathan Bond lifted Houston Dynamo to a 1-0 win over Seattle Sounders on October 28. It was Houston’s first road victory over Seattle, after entering the match with no wins and four draws in 17 visits. The Dynamo had not earned a point in Seattle since 2016.
Halter headed in Mateusz Bogusz’s corner kick in the 26th minute, netting his maiden goal in appearance number 20 in MLS. The assist was Bogusz’s fifth of the season. Bond’s six saves preserved the lead and gave him his 12th clean sheet of the season, matching Houston’s club record. The team’s 13 clean sheets also tied its single-season record.
The result moved Houston into fourth place in the Western Conference, level on points with third-place St. Louis and three points behind second. The top four earn home field in the best-of-three first round. Seattle fell to eighth with two matches remaining, holding a two-point advantage over 10th-place LA Galaxy; the top nine teams in each conference qualify for the postseason.
Houston had drawn its previous four matches this month, while Seattle came in on the back of two consecutive draws. Seattle had beaten Houston 1-0 in their first meeting of the season, in April. Houston visits Portland on November 1, while Seattle travels to Vancouver that day.
