Wembanyama and Tatum Named NBA Players of the Week
The NBA named San Antonio’s Victor Wembanyama and Boston’s Jayson Tatum its weekly honorees in the West and East on November 2, recognizing games played from October 26 through November 1.
On November 2, the NBA selected San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama and Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum for its weekly honors in the Western and Eastern conferences. The awards cover performances from October 26 through November 1, during the opening weeks of the 2026-27 season.
Wembanyama, 22, received the Western Conference honor as the Spurs reached a 4-2 record and put together four straight wins. His defense remains a major part of his impact, while his progress on offense has made him a tougher matchup.
In the East, Tatum helped Boston extend its winning run to five games with a 108-97 victory over the Orlando Magic on Sunday. He scored 32 points in the win. The Celtics stood at 5-1 entering Monday, among the conference’s early leaders.
The recognition reflects the different roles the two stars hold. Tatum, a six-time All-Star and NBA champion, is a veteran leader for a Boston team seeking another title. Wembanyama is building his career with a San Antonio team that has started strongly. Both clubs have championship ambitions, though the season is still in its early stages.
