On November 3, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Tyrese Proctor was delivering efficient scoring, rebounding and playmaking in a limited reserve role, strengthening his case for more court time.

On November 3, Tyrese Proctor’s early contributions were giving the Cleveland Cavaliers reason to keep expanding his role. The second-year guard was putting up 5.5 points, 2.8 boards and 2.2 assists across 13 minutes each game, while shooting 52.2% overall and 58.3% from three-point range on 12 attempts from beyond the arc.

His recent games offered a range of contributions: Proctor had seven points and six rebounds against Atlanta, followed by nine points and five assists in a 136-111 win over Milwaukee. Against Oklahoma City, he added 10 points, four rebounds and two assists. In that game, he hit two early threes, later scored on a drive and made two free throws that put Cleveland ahead 94-93.

Proctor has also created chances for teammates. He averages 4.5 potential assists per game, fourth on the team, and his 21.6% assist rate ranks third among Cavaliers players. He dished five against Milwaukee, finding Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen; against Oklahoma City, he set up Allen for a dunk and Mario Hezonja for a three-pointer.

Coach Kenny Atkinson has played Proctor at point guard, shooting guard and small forward. His shooting could cool, and a few strong outings do not guarantee a lasting rotation spot. But his ability to contribute without dominating the ball, along with his passing and rebounding, has made his minutes useful. Continued dependable play could earn him greater trust.
