Astros appoint Randy Flores as general manager

Houston hired Randy Flores, a longtime St. Louis Cardinals executive, as its general manager on October 30, making him the 15th person to hold the role in franchise history.
The Houston Astros have chosen Randy Flores to lead their baseball operations, bringing an end to their search for a general manager. Flores, 51, previously served with the St. Louis Cardinals as an assistant general manager overseeing amateur and professional acquisition. He succeeds Dana Brown, whose contract was not renewed after the Astros parted ways with him in August.
Flores joined the Cardinals’ front office in 2015 as director of scouting and held an assistant general manager position for eight seasons, from 2019 through 2026. His work included scouting and player acquisition. Before moving into front-office roles, he pitched in the major leagues for parts of eight seasons, making 347 relief appearances and three starts.
Astros owner Jim Crane said Flores impressed the club with his scouting and player-acquisition experience, and said the team hoped to pursue another championship with him. Flores said he was grateful for the opportunity and looked forward to moving his family to Houston.
Houston also has a managerial opening after deciding not to renew Joe Espada’s contract following the team’s elimination in the American League Wild Card Series. The Astros finished the season 81-81 but won the AL West. Crane is scheduled to introduce Flores at a news conference on November 2, 2026 at Daikin Park.
