Eight Candidates Named to Baseball Hall of Fame Era Ballot

The Hall of Fame named eight managers and executives to its Contemporary Baseball Era ballot on November 2. The committee will vote in San Diego on December 6.
Eight candidates are seeking election to the Baseball Hall of Fame through its Contemporary Baseball Era Committee, including Lou Piniella, Joe Maddon, Bruce Bochy and Dusty Baker. The ballot, announced on November 2, also features Ted Turner, Bill White, Brian Sabean and Sandy Alderson. Turner died in May.
The 16-member committee will meet on December 6 in San Diego. A candidate needs at least 12 votes to be elected, and voters may select no more than three people. Those chosen are due to be inducted on July 25, 2027, alongside any players elected by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.
The managers bring extensive records of success. Bochy won four World Series, including three with the San Francisco Giants and one with the Texas Rangers. Baker won the 2022 championship with Houston, while Maddon led the Chicago Cubs to their 2016 title and Piniella managed Cincinnati’s 1990 championship team. Piniella previously came within one vote of election in 2023.
Alderson built Oakland’s 1989 championship team and later held executive roles with the Mets, Padres and Major League Baseball. Sabean assembled the Giants teams that won titles in 2010, 2012 and 2014. Turner owned the Braves during their 1995 championship season and helped bring baseball games to a national cable audience. White played in the major leagues, worked as a broadcaster and served as National League president.
