Tigers Pick Up Anderson Option, Move On From Jansen

The Detroit Tigers exercised Drew Anderson’s 2027 option and declined Kenley Jansen’s option, while making several roster moves on November 2.
On November 2, Detroit exercised right-hander Drew Anderson’s club option for 2027, guaranteeing him $10 million. The decision gives the Tigers a pitcher who worked both as a starter and reliever in 2026. In 49 appearances, Anderson posted a 3.67 ERA over 108 innings, with 114 strikeouts and two saves. He made 11 starts and had a 2.86 ERA across his final four outings as a starter.
The Tigers declined closer Kenley Jansen’s $12 million option, making him a free agent. His contract includes a $2 million buyout, so the two option decisions leave Detroit responsible for $12 million for 2027. Jansen recorded six blown saves in 2026. The team is now without the pitcher who served as its primary closer.
Detroit also added right-hander Jacob Waguespack on a one-year major-league contract worth $1.3 million, with incentives that could raise the total to $1.5 million. Seven players were reinstated from the 60-day injured list: Kerry Carpenter, Parker Meadows, Reese Olson, Wenceel Pérez, Trey Sweeney, Will Vest and Matt Vierling.
The Tigers placed Bailey Horn and Sawyer Gipson-Long on unconditional release waivers, outrighted outfielder Corey Julks from the 40-man roster, and designated right-hander Yilber Díaz for assignment. With those moves, Detroit’s 40-man roster stands at 40.
