Arizona catcher Gabriel Moreno won his second Gold Glove and the National League batting title after a standout 2026 season, strengthening his position in any contract negotiations with the Diamondbacks.

Gabriel Moreno’s exceptional 2026 season has made it harder for the Arizona Diamondbacks to secure a long-term deal with their catcher. The 26-year-old earned his second Gold Glove on November 1, adding to a year in which he also won the National League batting title, the first in franchise history.

Moreno played a career-high 130 games and hit .311 with a .388 on-base percentage and .486 slugging percentage. He finished with 16 home runs, 83 runs batted in and an .874 OPS, which was 43% above league average by OPS+.

His defense was also highly rated. Moreno recorded seven Fielding Run Value and 14 Defensive Runs Saved, threw out 14 of 56 attempted base-stealers, and graded above average in measures of blocking, framing and pop time. His overall value topped six wins by both bWAR and fWAR estimates, leading Arizona.

Moreno’s combination of a batting title and a Gold Glove is rare among catchers. The only other major league catcher cited as achieving both in one season is Joe Mauer, who did so in 2008 and 2009.

Moreno remains under team control through 2028, although arbitration costs are expected to rise. His awards and production could increase his price in extension talks, while he may choose to wait and pursue the open market. Arizona’s ability to reach an agreement will depend on whether it can meet his eventual demands.
