Pujols Emerges as Candidate for Astros Manager Job

Albert Pujols is among the candidates to manage the Houston Astros in 2027, a role that could bring the former St. Louis Cardinals star back to Busch Stadium.
Albert Pujols is being considered for the Houston Astros’ vacant managerial position, putting the former Cardinals icon in contention for his first major-league managing job. Brad Ausmus is also among the candidates. Pujols came close to getting the Los Angeles Angels’ job last offseason, but was not hired.
If Houston selects Pujols, the Astros are scheduled to visit St. Louis for three games from September 6 to 8, 2027. The teams would play at Busch Stadium, giving Pujols a chance to face his former club from the opposing dugout in his first season as a manager.
The Astros have yet to make a decision, while teams around the league continue filling managerial openings. The Seattle Mariners named Jason Kanzler as their new manager on Tuesday, and the Philadelphia Phillies have also filled their position. The Angels are still looking for a manager, and could be another possibility for Pujols.
The Angels’ ownership has changed, with Stan Kroenke replacing Arte Moreno, and former Cardinals executive John Mozeliak is serving as the team’s interim general manager. If Pujols takes the Angels’ job, St. Louis is scheduled to play there in August 2027. The planned schedule could be affected by a looming lockout.
