Messi’s late goal lifts Inter Miami past New England

Inter Miami beat the New England Revolution 2-1 in Foxborough on November 1, moving into second place in the Eastern Conference with one regular-season match remaining.
Lionel Messi scored in the 83rd minute to complete Inter Miami’s comeback against New England at Gillette Stadium. The victory moved Miami one point ahead of the Revolution into second place in the Eastern Conference, with both teams having one regular-season game left. Miami also secured a place in the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup, the Spanish-language report said.
New England took the lead in the 53rd minute. Dániel Gazdag finished a move involving Ilay Feingold and 18-year-old Peyton Miller, putting the hosts ahead after a scoreless first half.
Messi helped bring Miami level in the 69th minute, setting up Germán Berterame, who headed in his 10th goal of the MLS season. Messi then scored the winner, his league-leading 26th goal, with Telasco Segovia providing the assist. Segovia’s assist was his 12th of the season, a career high.
A season-high crowd of 54,112 watched the match, the fourth-largest crowd ever at a New England home match. New England’s four-match winning run ended, while Miami recorded its 10th road win of the season—three more than any other team.
Miami will host Charlotte FC on Saturday to finish the regular season. New England travels to face Orlando City the same day. Revolution coach Marko Mitrovic said his team’s decisions and positioning after taking the lead helped Miami build momentum, and that small details mattered in a match of this kind.
