Jazz Open 1-5 as Injuries Shake Up NBA Season

The Utah Jazz began the 2026-27 NBA season 1-5, with injuries to key frontcourt players adding to a difficult start, as of November 2.
The Jazz have struggled through the opening weeks of the NBA season. Utah is 1-5, and injuries to important frontcourt players have compounded the slow start, despite some encouraging individual performances. The team’s opening stretch included a 112-90 home loss to Portland on Halloween and a defeat to Memphis, which is 6-0.
Injuries have also disrupted several other teams. Jaren Jackson Jr., Ja Morant, Paolo Banchero, Jalen Duren, Tyrese Haliburton, Kawhi Leonard and Anthony Edwards are among the stars expected to miss significant time. Detroit, meanwhile, has continued winning without Duren, starting 5-1.
Houston leads the early rankings at 6-1, supported by the league’s best offensive rating, 121.2 points per 100 possessions. Philadelphia is also 6-1, while Memphis holds the league’s only undefeated record. Its schedule has not yet been demanding enough to lift it above fourth. Boston, at 5-1, rounds out the top five after five straight wins.
