Knicks’ Fourth-Quarter Surge Sinks Nets After Close Contest

The New York Knicks beat the Brooklyn Nets 103-90 at Madison Square Garden on November 2, pulling away with a decisive fourth-quarter run.
On November 2, Brooklyn stayed close to the defending champion Knicks for most of their matchup at Madison Square Garden, but a late scoring drought turned a competitive game into a 103-90 defeat. The Nets managed only 11 points in the fourth quarter after leading by four early in the period. New York answered with a 16-2 run.
Michael Porter Jr. scored 18 points, hitting four of his nine three-point attempts. Julius Randle had 21 points and 11 rebounds for Brooklyn, despite making five of 16 shots from the field; he went to the line 15 times and converted 11 free throws. Nolan Traore scored 17 points on eight shots and made four of five attempts from beyond the arc. He also blocked Jalen Brunson from behind.
The loss left the Nets with a 1-6 record and extended their losing streak against the Knicks to 15 games. Brooklyn’s last win in the series came on January 28, 2023. The Nets had won their first game of this season the previous night in Indiana.
Coach Jordi Fernández said Brooklyn had played well for most of the game, but fell short in its final stretch. He pointed to positives in the team’s effort over its last two games, rather than writing off the performance. The Nets had a chance to close the gap with their crosstown rivals, but could not sustain their play through the fourth quarter.
