Meleek Thomas Makes an Immediate Case for the Cavaliers

On November 3, rookie guard Meleek Thomas had scored in double figures in each of his first four NBA appearances, giving Cleveland another potential offensive option.
The 34th pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, Meleek Thomas has made an early impact for the Cleveland Cavaliers. In his NBA debut, he scored 16 points, including four three-pointers, as Cleveland overcame a 20-point deficit to beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 127-125 in overtime.
Thomas then totaled 10 versus Washington, 13 versus Milwaukee and 17 while making his first professional start against Oklahoma City. He did not play in Cleveland’s first two games, but his recent performances have strengthened his case for more minutes.
The Cavaliers could use another source of offense alongside Donovan Mitchell and James Harden. With defenses focused on the two established guards, Thomas’ ability to take open shots, drive to the basket and contribute without dominating the ball could be useful. He has also brought confidence and competitiveness, though his early run is only a small sample.
There is no guarantee the 20-year-old will become a star or hold a place in the playoff rotation. He will face tougher defensive assignments, and his shooting may cool. For now, his scoring and willingness to compete offer Cleveland an encouraging contribution from a second-round pick.
