Warriors Seeking Trade for Porzingis, Fischer Says

The Golden State Warriors are looking to trade Kristaps Porzingis, NBA analyst Jake Fischer said on November 3, as the team seeks a player who can help immediately.

The Warriors want to move Porzingis and are treating his contract as a way to match salary in a deal, Fischer said during a livestream on November 3. Porzingis has about $3 million guaranteed for next season, and Golden State hopes to receive a player in return while reducing salary commitments, Fischer said.

Porzingis is currently eligible to be traded but is out indefinitely. Golden State may need an extra reserve as Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody recover from long-term knee injuries. A deal may not happen right away, as teams could wait until mid-December before becoming willing to trade players.

The Warriors may prefer taking on a longer contract rather than surrendering multiple first-round picks. One possible model is a player with several years left on his deal who is not considered a franchise cornerstone. Nicolas Claxton was cited as an example, with a $21.1 million salary scheduled for 2027-28.

Golden State could have to include a first-round pick to make a trade attractive. A lightly protected 2027 pick might be part of a package, with Myles Turner among the hoped-for targets; if that is not enough, the team could pursue a player in Claxton’s range. Fischer said acquiring Lauri Markkanen would be far-fetched. The Warriors’ willingness to spend a future pick may depend on finding the right player.
