Five-Star DeMarcus Henry Commits to North Carolina

Five-star forward DeMarcus Henry, ranked No. 2 in ESPN’s 2027 class, committed to North Carolina on October 30, choosing the Tar Heels over Kentucky, Arkansas and Louisville.
North Carolina has added a top prospect to its 2027 recruiting class, as DeMarcus Henry announced his commitment to the Tar Heels on October 30. The 6-foot-7 forward made his choice during an ESPN broadcast on October 30, following an official visit to Chapel Hill and meetings with head coach Michael Malone and the coaching staff.
Henry, a Charlotte native who attends Compass Prep in Arizona, had narrowed his options to four programs. During his visit, he also spoke by phone with former North Carolina star Michael Jordan, who complimented his play and urged him to choose the Tar Heels.
Playing for Vegas Elite at the Peach Jam tournament this summer, Henry recorded 18.2 points, eight boards, 2.2 assists and 1.2 steals per contest. His size, athleticism and versatility make him a potential centerpiece for Malone as he builds the program’s future roster.
The commitment could also help North Carolina’s pursuit of other highly ranked players. Five-star power forward CJ Rosser is among the Tar Heels’ targets, though he may not decide until the new year. Point guard Jalen Davis is another priority. North Carolina still has work to do to complete its class, but Henry gives Malone an early recruiting win as the program seeks to contend in the ACC and nationally.
