Rick Croy is leaving the Cal Baptist head-coaching job to become associate head coach under Randy Bennett at Arizona State in Tempe, announced on November 2.

Rick Croy is joining Randy Bennett’s staff at Arizona State as associate head coach after leading Cal Baptist for 13 seasons. Croy previously held the same role under Bennett at Saint Mary’s from 2010 to 2013, and said the chance to work with Bennett again made the move appealing for him and his family.

Croy’s time at Cal Baptist included the school’s move from Division II to Division I, which he oversaw. The Lancers recorded five straight winning seasons at the start of their Division I era, then reached the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history in 2026. They lost 68-60 to Kansas in the first round as a No. 13 seed.

Across his 13 seasons at Cal Baptist, Croy had a .667 winning percentage. Before taking that job, he coached at Citrus College, UC Riverside and Concordia Irvine. He played at San Francisco State, where he holds the school record for career three-pointers, after attending Northgate High School in California.

Croy said he wanted to compete at the Division I level and valued the opportunity to do so with Bennett and the Arizona State staff. His son, JRob, is also joining the Sun Devils as a freshman. Croy’s experience leading a program through its rise to Division I and its first NCAA tournament appearance will now be part of Bennett’s staff in Tempe.
