Kentucky Brings Top-10 Record to Tennessee for SEC Clash

No. 8 Kentucky visits No. 16 Tennessee in a Southeastern Conference football game on November 7 in Knoxville. Tennessee coach Josh Heupel said his team must limit mistakes against a Kentucky squad that has excelled at winning the turnover battle.
Kentucky, 7-1, is set to face Tennessee, 6-2, at Neyland Stadium on November 7 at 6:15 p.m. Eastern. The game follows Tennessee’s bye week and comes after the Volunteers lost 27-24 to South Carolina on October 24. Kentucky beat Vanderbilt 34-17 that day. ESPN will televise the matchup, which falls during Tennessee’s homecoming week and is scheduled as a night game.
Heupel said Kentucky has been effective in all three phases and has protected the ball. The Wildcats rank fourth nationally in turnover margin at plus-13 and have committed fewer penalties than Tennessee. The Volunteers average 62.1 penalty yards per game, compared with Kentucky’s 41.9.
Tennessee’s defense allows 288.5 yards per game, ranking 15th in the FBS, while its offense averages 394.5. Running back DeSean Bishop leads the Volunteers with 957 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. Kentucky averages 386.4 yards per game and is led by quarterback Kenny Minchey, who has thrown for 1,755 yards, 14 touchdowns and one interception.
Heupel said Tennessee would need to communicate well against Kentucky’s pre-snap movement, control the line of scrimmage and force the Wildcats into difficult third downs. He also stressed avoiding penalties and executing consistently, pointing to Tennessee’s 12 penalties for 90 yards in the South Carolina loss. He did not name a starting quarterback, saying the decision would follow the week’s practices.
Tennessee is favored by 6.5 points. The Volunteers next visit Texas A&M on November 14, while Kentucky hosts Florida that day.
