West Virginia Adds Purdue to 2027 Football Schedule

West Virginia will host Purdue in Morgantown during the 2027 football season, athletic director Wren Baker announced on November 3. The game date has not been set.
West Virginia has added a home game against Purdue to its 2027 football schedule. The date will be determined as the Mountaineers finalize their nonconference slate, athletic director Wren Baker said on November 3. The teams are set to meet in Morgantown for the first time since 1995.
Baker said the matchup brings a regional Big Ten opponent to Milan Puskar Stadium and gives West Virginia 10 Power Four games on its schedule. The expanded College Football Playoff is set to have 24 teams, and Power Four schools must schedule at least 10 Power Four opponents under the requirement described by Baker.
West Virginia’s listed nonconference games are Ohio on August 28, Southern Miss on September 4 and VMI on September 11. With Purdue added, one of those three games will be dropped. The Ohio game is part of a two-for-one arrangement that includes another home meeting in 2029. Purdue’s current nonconference slate includes UAlbany, Notre Dame and Miami (Ohio).
The Mountaineers’ listed Big 12 home opponents are Arizona State, BYU, Iowa State and UCF. Their road opponents are Baylor, Cincinnati, Colorado, Kansas State and Oklahoma State. Baker said further schedule announcements would follow as arrangements are completed.
West Virginia and Purdue have met twice, with each team winning once. Purdue won 26-24 in Morgantown in 1995; West Virginia took the next meeting, 20-6, in West Lafayette in 1996.
