Brent Key Weighs Georgia Tech Changes Ahead of Louisville Game

Georgia Tech coach Brent Key discussed quarterback plans, turnovers, leadership and injured lineman Josh Petty at a Tuesday press conference ahead of the Yellow Jackets’ game against Louisville.
Key said Georgia Tech will decide Thursday evening which quarterback gives the team its best chance to win. Backup Grady Adamson has brought energy in the past two weeks, he said, but the staff will consider all positions before settling on its lineup.
Key acknowledged that changes are needed after the team’s struggles, while saying he does not consider the program itself broken. He said responsibility for making adjustments rests with him and that the team must play to the standards expected by Georgia Tech supporters and staff.
He pointed to six interceptions, two returned for touchdowns and 15 fumbles as evidence of what he called a serious failure to protect the ball. Key connected the problem to discipline and said the team had addressed it in a Monday message.
Key also said last year’s group of 26 seniors provided strong leadership but did not adequately prepare younger players to take on those responsibilities. He said several challenges arose quickly, including roster and coaching decisions, but added that accountability ultimately rests with him.
Offensive lineman Josh Petty, recently back from injury, is expected to remain on a pitch count for the rest of the season. Key said Petty’s limited playing time in his first career start was due to that restriction, not his performance, and described him as talented but inexperienced.
