LSU-Texas Kickoff Time Awaits SEC Decision

LSU and Texas will meet in Baton Rouge on November 14 on ABC, but the SEC has yet to decide whether the game will start at 2:30 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. CT.
The SEC will choose between a 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. CT kickoff for LSU’s November 14 home game against Texas after this weekend’s games. The matchup is set to air on ABC, but the conference has not laid out specific criteria for assigning the later slot.
Both teams are 6-2 and ranked in the top 15: LSU is No. 15, while Texas is No. 10. LSU hosts No. 9 Alabama, and Texas visits No. 19 Missouri before the teams meet in Baton Rouge. Wins could strengthen the game’s appeal for ABC’s evening broadcast and keep both programs in the College Football Playoff conversation.
Another SEC matchup is competing for the same broadcast window. Missouri is scheduled to host No. 2 Georgia on November 14, also on ABC, with a kickoff time of either 2:30 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. CT. Georgia faces No. 12 Ole Miss this weekend. Results in those games could affect the stakes of the Georgia-Missouri matchup as well as the case for LSU-Texas in primetime.
LSU is already set for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff against Alabama, the first daytime meeting between the teams at Tiger Stadium since 2010. A night game against Texas would put the Tigers under the lights again during Lane Kiffin’s first season as head coach. It would also be Texas’s first visit to Baton Rouge since 1953.
The teams will play on ABC regardless of the kickoff decision. The SEC is expected to make its choice after Saturday’s games.
