Harbaugh Says Chargers Want Khalil Mack to Stay

On November 2, Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh said the team and Khalil Mack want him to remain in Los Angeles, complicating trade hopes for the Chicago Bears before the November 10 deadline.
Published November 3, 2026. Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh said Monday that Los Angeles wants to keep defensive end Khalil Mack, despite the team’s 0-7 start and trade speculation involving the Chicago Bears. Harbaugh described Mack as a key part of the team and said the player also wants to stay.
Mack, 35, has three sacks in seven games this season. His contract expires after the season, factors that could make a deal relatively affordable in draft picks. When asked about trade talk after the Chargers’ latest loss, Mack spoke about focusing on the present and tuning out outside noise, without saying he wanted to leave.
Chicago has been linked to a possible reunion with Mack, who played for the Bears from 2018 to 2022. He recorded 36 sacks in 53 regular-season games for the team. Chicago general manager Ryan Poles has said he will keep monitoring trade possibilities, but indicated the team’s recent activity may ease.
The Bears traded two first-round picks to Tennessee last week for defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, making another major draft-pick expenditure less likely. The NFL trade deadline is November 10. Harbaugh said he was focused on trying to turn around the Chargers’ season and playing winning football.
