Josh Sweat Trade Talk Leaves Cowboys’ Options Unclear

On November 3, Arizona Cardinals edge rusher Josh Sweat was said to be open to a trade, while the team appeared willing to keep him, leaving the Dallas Cowboys’ potential pursuit uncertain before the November 10 deadline.
On November 3, NFL insider Jordan Schultz said Josh Sweat would be receptive to a trade from the Arizona Cardinals, but Arizona has given the impression it is comfortable keeping the edge rusher. Several teams could be interested, though the asking price is believed to be steep. The Cowboys have been mentioned by NFL insiders as a possible destination because they need help at the position, but no direct report has tied Dallas to interest in Sweat.
Sweat is not described as insisting on a move, so a deal would depend on Arizona deciding to trade him. The Cardinals are in the early stages of a rebuild, and moving the 29-year-old could bring them draft picks. Sweat has recorded two seasons with at least 10 sacks, most recently in 2025. A third-round pick is suggested as a possible return, but that is an estimate, not a confirmed asking price.
Dallas has already added to its edge-rushing group by acquiring Rashan Gary, bringing in Von Miller and selecting Malachi Lawrence in the draft. Together, those three players have produced three sacks so far this year. The team’s edge defenders have 6.5 sacks in total, with Donovan Ezeiruaku contributing 2.5 and James Houston one. Sweat brought down the quarterback for his third sack of the year when Arizona faced Dallas in Week 8, but whether he could significantly improve the defense remains uncertain. Any trade would have to fit the Cowboys’ limited draft capital, as well as Arizona’s willingness to part with him.
