Kaskimaki’s First NHL Goal Completes Blues’ Rally Over Red Wings

Aleksanteri Kaskimaki scored his first NHL goal with 6:45 left as St. Louis rallied from a two-goal third-period deficit to beat Detroit 5-4 on Saturday, October 31.
St. Louis overcame a 4-2 deficit in the third period to defeat Detroit 5-4, with Aleksanteri Kaskimaki scoring the winning goal in his 11th NHL game. The 22-year-old Finnish forward redirected a feed from Alexey Toropchenko with 6:45 left, recording his first career NHL goal.
Pavel Buchnevich and Justin Barron each found the net in the third, cutting the Blues’ deficit to one. Emmitt Finnie had given Detroit a 4-2 lead at 3:29 with a power-play goal.
Dalibor Dvorsky scored St. Louis’ first goal at 2:29 of the opening period, despite the Blues recording only one shot on goal in the frame. J.T. Compher tied it for Detroit after Blues goaltender Joel Hofer misplayed the puck behind the net. Keegan Kolesar put the Red Wings ahead early in the second, and Lucas Raymond’s goal was answered by Jimmy Snuggerud’s tip-in late in the period.
Snuggerud’s goal was his team-leading eighth of the season. Raymond finished with a goal and an assist. Hofer made 24 saves, while Detroit’s John Gibson stopped 10 shots. Kolesar had gone 13 games without a point before scoring, after Detroit picked him up from Vegas in an offseason trade.
Detroit took the ice for the second time following the suspension without pay of center and former captain Dylan Larkin. After seeking a trade in the offseason, Larkin chose following the team’s road trip earlier in the week to remain out until a deal is made. St. Louis visits the New York Rangers on Tuesday; Detroit visits Florida on Monday.
