Arvidsson’s Hat Trick Leads Red Wings Past Blackhawks

Viktor Arvidsson scored three goals and added an assist as Detroit beat Chicago 4-1 in Detroit on October 29.
Viktor Arvidsson recorded his sixth career hat trick and a four-point game as the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1 on October 29. Detroit has gone 5-1-1 over its past seven games. Lucas Raymond scored on a power play, Alex DeBrincat contributed two assists and goalie John Gibson stopped 18 shots.
Chicago took the lead at 5:59 of the first period when Connor Bedard put in a rebound of Wyatt Kaiser’s shot. Arvidsson tied the game at 7:31 of the second, deflecting William Wallinder’s shot past Spencer Knight. Knight finished with 25 saves.
Gibson kept the score level by stopping Frank Nazar’s penalty shot after Andreas Englund hooked him. Raymond put Detroit ahead at 1:09 of the third period, scoring from the right circle while Patrick Kane served a penalty for high-sticking. Arvidsson added a goal off a DeBrincat rebound with 4:34 remaining, then completed the hat trick with an empty-net goal.
Detroit played without former captain Dylan Larkin, whom the team suspended without pay before the game. Larkin had asked for a trade in the offseason and said through his agent that he would no longer play for the team. His 10-game season total was two goals plus six assists.
Arvidsson said Detroit’s second and third periods were outstanding and that he was enjoying his role with the team. The Blackhawks, now 0-5 on the road, visit Boston on October 31. Detroit hosts St. Louis that day.
