Rangers Fall to Oilers as Losing Streak Reaches Four

The New York Rangers lost 4-1 to Edmonton at Madison Square Garden on November 1, extending their skid to four games. They next host the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday.
Edmonton struck almost immediately, with Connor McDavid scoring 50 seconds into the game. Colton Dach made it 2-0 just over six minutes later, and the Rangers finished the opening period with only five shots on goal. It was the third straight game in which New York entered the first intermission down by two goals.
The Oilers extended their lead on Evan Bouchard’s power-play goal in the second period. Bouchard had earlier put the puck in the net, but that goal was disallowed for goalie interference. Pavel Dorofeyev answered for New York, scoring his fourth of the season with assists from Scott Morrow and Mika Zibanejad.
New York had a chance to close the gap early in the third when Edmonton’s Connor Murphy was penalized for interference. Rangers forward Alexis Lafreniere got a close-range opportunity, but goaltender Matt Tomkins stopped him. Later, the Rangers killed off a five-on-three after taking two hooking penalties in quick succession.
The Rangers could not build on that defensive stand. Dach scored into an empty net for his second goal of the night, sealing Edmonton’s 4-1 win. McDavid and Bouchard each had two points, while McDavid also assisted on Bouchard’s power-play goal.
The Oilers improved to 11-2-2 overall and 7-0 on the road. New York had been off for five days and played without goaltender Igor Shesterkin and defenseman Sean Durzi. The Rangers’ next game is at home against St. Louis on Tuesday.
