Jets erase four-goal deficit to beat Canadiens in overtime

Dylan Samberg scored in overtime as Winnipeg rallied from four goals down to beat Montreal 5-4 on November 3, ending the Jets’ nine-game losing streak.
Montreal held a 4-0 lead early in the third period after Cole Caufield scored his second goal of the game, but Winnipeg mounted a remarkable comeback to win 5-4 in overtime on November 3. Dylan Samberg scored the winner, ending the Jets’ nine-game skid.
Winnipeg scored four times in just over two minutes, tying the game with 32 seconds left in regulation on Kyle Connor’s power-play goal. It was Connor’s second of the game. Tyrel Bauer and Morgan Barron had opened the rally, ending Montreal goalie Jacob Fowler’s shutout bid.
The Jets were coming off a 7-0 loss to Carolina. Stuart Skinner made 18 saves for Winnipeg, while Mark Scheifele and Dylan DeMelo each recorded two assists. Winnipeg had reunited Scheifele, Connor and Gabriel Vilardi on its top line as it looked for an offensive spark.
Caufield scored twice for Montreal. Owen Beck and Josh Anderson also scored, and Juraj Slafkovsky contributed a pair of assists. Fowler made 42 saves. When Beck scored, brothers Arber and Florian Xhekaj each recorded a point, the first time brothers had done so on the same Canadiens goal since 2009.
Montreal captain Nick Suzuki missed his sixth straight game with a hand injury. He had practised without obvious limitations on November 2 and November 3. Winnipeg is set to host Vancouver on November 5, while Montreal will host Utah that night.
