Aho’s Late Goal Lifts Hurricanes Past Bruins

Sebastian Aho scored in the third period as Carolina beat Boston 2-1 in Raleigh on October 27, ending the Bruins’ eight-game points streak.
Pavel Zacha put Boston ahead on a power play 1:31 into the game, finishing a sequence involving David Pastrnak and Elias Lindholm. Carolina drew even in the final minute of the opening period when Jackson Blake scored after Nikolaj Ehlers forced a turnover behind the Bruins’ net.
The Hurricanes controlled much of the second period, limiting Boston to two shots. Carolina had an extended two-man advantage late in the frame and into the third, but Jeremy Swayman and the Bruins’ penalty killers kept the score tied.
Matthew Poitras nearly restored Boston’s lead midway through the third, but his backhand attempt on an open net struck the post. Aho scored at the other end with 9:41 remaining, converting a rush set up by William Carrier and Andrei Svechnikov. It was Aho’s eighth goal of the season and his 19th point, a team high.
Carolina then held off two Boston power plays in the final five minutes to secure the win. Pyotr Kochetkov stopped 14 shots, improving to 8-0-0 and matching the franchise record for the longest winning streak to start a season by a goaltender. Swayman made 28 saves. The result ended Boston’s eight-game run of earning points and snapped its two-game winning streak.
Boston is scheduled to visit St. Louis on Thursday. Carolina is set to host Columbus that night.
