Marlins Exercise Sandy Alcantara’s $21 Million Option

The Miami Marlins exercised right-hander Sandy Alcantara’s $21 million club option on October 30, keeping him under contract for the 2027 season instead of paying a $2 million buyout.
Miami’s decision secures Alcantara for the coming season and guarantees him $75 million over six years under the contract he signed in 2021. The 31-year-old is entering the final year of his deal, leaving open the possibility of trade discussions or a contract extension.
Alcantara finished the 2026 season 13-11, posting a 3.87 earned run average across 33 starts plus three outings from the bullpen. He pitched 214 innings, the most in the major leagues, and recorded 153 strikeouts. Late in the season, he also filled in as closer and notched three saves, the first of his 10-year career.
The season was his second after Tommy John surgery. Miami president of baseball operations Peter Bendix praised Alcantara’s importance to the organization, including his leadership and example for younger players. Alcantara said he wanted to remain with the Marlins.
Miami finished 80-82 and missed the postseason. The club has Alcantara alongside Eury Perez and Max Meyer as it looks to build on progress with its younger players. His option keeps him in the rotation to start 2027, but does not settle his longer-term future with the team.
