Marlins Agree to $1 Million Deal With Robinson Cano Jr.

The Miami Marlins have reached a preliminary $1 million agreement with 16-year-old Dominican prospect Robinson Cano Jr. on November 2, setting him up for the team’s 2028 international signing class.
The Miami club has tentatively agreed to pay $1 million for Robinson Cano Jr., a 16-year-old shortstop from the Dominican Republic. The deal is intended to place him in the club’s 2028 international signing class; MLB rules allow international amateurs to sign during that class year if they meet the age requirement.
Cano Jr. is the son of former major-league second baseman Robinson Cano, who played in the majors for parts of 17 seasons and earned eight All-Star selections. His career included a World Series title with the New York Yankees in 2009. He last appeared in the majors in 2022 and later continued his playing career internationally.
Cano Jr. played in 2026 for the Diablos Rojos del México in the Mexican League, batting .291 with 15 home runs and 72 runs batted in. His father has overseen his development, including a demanding routine combining physical training and work on hitting and defense. Cano Jr. told his father in 2023 that he wanted to pursue baseball full time.
