Foscue’s Breakout Leaves Rangers With Questions for 2027

Texas Rangers infielder Justin Foscue batted .271, launching 11 homers and recording an .816 OPS over 100 games in 2026. His strong results against left-handed pitchers contrasted sharply with his struggles against right-handers.
Foscue’s 2026 season offered a sharp turnaround after he collected just three base hits across his first 51 trips to the plate in the majors. The 27-year-old, drafted 14th overall by Texas in 2020, finished the season batting .271 with 11 homers and an .816 OPS across 100 games and 247 plate appearances.
The improvement had some support in his recent record: in 2025, Foscue hit 19 home runs and posted an .815 OPS at Triple-A Round Rock. But his major-league production was uneven depending on the opposing pitcher.
Facing left-handers, Foscue batted .324, went deep eight times, and registered a .981 OPS. Against right-handers, he batted .175 with a .512 OPS. That split came in 85 plate appearances against righties, a sample that leaves room for him to improve, but raises questions about whether he can handle an everyday role.
A productive platoon bat could help the Rangers, whose offense has been inconsistent. Still, the club selected Foscue expecting his hitting to make him a regular lineup presence, not just an option against left-handed pitching.
His 2027 season should give Texas a better measure of whether the 2026 breakout can last. Foscue will have to show that he can narrow the gap against right-handers and turn one strong season into dependable production.
