Brewers Decline Options for Gary Sanchez and Antonio Senzatela

The Milwaukee Brewers declined 2027 options for catcher Gary Sanchez and pitcher Antonio Senzatela, while extending Jake Bauers a one-year qualifying offer worth $23 million.
Milwaukee declined its 2027 club option for Antonio Senzatela, which would have paid the veteran pitcher $14 million, and ended its mutual option with catcher Gary Sanchez. The decisions came as the Brewers began their offseason, alongside a one-year, $23 million qualifying offer to Jake Bauers, a first baseman and outfielder. Bauers must decide whether to accept it or turn it down.
Senzatela recorded a 5.14 ERA in 23 appearances after joining the Brewers following the trade deadline. He pitched well in the playoffs, but Milwaukee chose not to retain him at the option price. The team could still pursue a new agreement with him at a lower cost.
Sanchez accumulated 12 homers and 38 runs batted in across 86 regular-season games in 2026. He also had a key plate appearance in the postseason. The Brewers brought him back for a second stint in Milwaukee after he played there in 2024, and he became popular with fans.
Milwaukee has other catching options, including William Contreras, Bo Naylor, acquired from Cleveland before the 2026 trade deadline, and prospect Jeferson Quero. Sanchez’s departure is not certain, but his place on the 2027 roster is unclear as the Brewers weigh those alternatives.
