Tigers Linked to Luis Arraez as Second-Base Option

On November 4, a prediction named four-time All-Star Luis Arraez as a possible free-agent signing for the Detroit Tigers, who are considering options at second base for 2027.
Detroit could pursue Luis Arraez in free agency as it reshapes its roster for the 2027 season. A prediction from Tim Kelly put the four-time All-Star with the Tigers on a two-year, $32 million deal, potentially replacing Gleyber Torres at second base.
The move would depend in part on whether Detroit is ready to give the position to prospect Hao-Yu Lee. The Tigers have young players who could step into roles, but Arraez would offer an experienced alternative as the club tries to rebound after falling short of the postseason in 2026.
Arraez has played for five major-league teams, including the Giants and Phillies, after beginning his career with Minnesota. Over his career, he has recorded 264 walks and struck out 243 times. The prediction described his ability to reach base as a potential boost to Detroit’s lineup and said he could improve the team’s defense in the middle of the field.
Detroit also has pitching needs to address after trading Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize at the 2026 trade deadline. Detroit remained in contention for an AL wild-card place into season’s closing week but failed to qualify. Their offseason decisions will shape the attempt to return to contention in 2027.
