Brewers Player Development Executive Cam Castro to Join Athletics

Milwaukee Brewers executive Cam Castro is set to become the Athletics’ general manager in Sacramento, with the move described on November 4, 2026, after Milwaukee’s 2027 championship season.
Cam Castro, the Milwaukee Brewers’ executive overseeing player development and performance, is leaving the club to become general manager of the Athletics in Sacramento. He will work under Taylor Smith, the Athletics’ president of baseball operations, who was hired in October.
The move follows a season in which Milwaukee won 103 games and captured its first World Series title. The team did so with a payroll of $154.7 million, while relying on analytics, scouting and player development to compete with higher-spending clubs.
Castro’s experience building the Brewers’ player-development operation made him a candidate for the Athletics’ front-office vacancy. The move could also lead other Milwaukee personnel to join him, first in Sacramento and eventually in Las Vegas, where the Athletics plan to relocate.
Milwaukee will need to fill Castro’s role, though the organization may have an internal successor. The Brewers previously replaced baseball operations leader David Stearns, who left for the New York Mets after the 2023 season, with Matt Arnold, then the team’s general manager.
Castro’s departure is expected to leave Milwaukee’s roster-building approach in place. The club has a young core and a strong farm system, and its success with a modest payroll is likely to keep drawing attention from teams seeking to build similar operations.
