Published October 30, 2026: No. 14 Miami meets top-ranked Florida in its season opener at Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, with both teams bringing motivation from last season.

October 30, 2026 — Miami opens its season against Florida, aiming to show how much its roster has changed since an 82-68 loss to the Gators last year. The No. 14 Hurricanes have added more shooting, options inside and players able to create offense, but their depth on defense remains a concern.

Miami guard Dante Allen, who played 15 minutes in last season’s meeting, said the chance to face a top team on a national stage was exciting. He made a defensive contribution in that game with five rebounds and a steal, though early foul trouble limited him.

Several other Hurricanes also have experience against Florida, including big men Somto Cyril and Robert Miller, who have faced the Gators while playing in the SEC. Coach Jai Lucas said both had improved and that Florida would encounter a different Miami team this time.

Florida, meanwhile, returns to Tampa, where it lost 73-72 to ninth-seeded Iowa in March. The defeat ended the Gators’ chance to win consecutive national titles. Florida led by three with 1:30 remaining, but missed chances and a late defensive breakdown helped Iowa take the game. Florida’s final possession ended with a pass to Thomas Haugh bouncing off his legs as time expired.

The loss helped persuade Haugh, Alex Condon and Rueben Chinyelu to return. Florida spent about $25 million to retain four starters and nine of its top 11 scorers. Coach Todd Golden said the Tampa venue was selected as part of plans to play Miami at neutral sites around the state. Florida State and Florida A&M are scheduled to play the opening game of the doubleheader.
