Nebraska beat San Jose State 81-54 in Lincoln on November 2, extending its season-opening win streak to eight. Britt Prince scored 23 points, while the Huskers dominated the boards and forced 32 turnovers.

Nebraska led throughout its season opener against San Jose State, winning 81-54 before a season-opening audience that ranked second in school history. The victory marked the Huskers’ eighth consecutive season-opening win and improved their record in home openers to 50-3.

Britt Prince led Nebraska with 23 points, and Amiah Hargrove added 15. The Huskers collected 44 rebounds, including 25 on defense. Prince grabbed eight rebounds, Hargrove had nine, and Edessa Noyan added seven. Nebraska averaged 33.1 rebounds per game last season, but that figure fell to 28.3 during a six-game losing streak in which opponents averaged 35.5.

Natalie Potts made her return after an ACL injury sidelined her for nearly two years. In 20 minutes off the bench, she scored 14 points, pulled down six rebounds, recorded three steals and blocked a shot. Coach Amy Williams may continue to manage Potts’ playing time as she works back into the rotation.

Nebraska’s defense also capitalized on San Jose State’s mistakes, forcing 32 turnovers and scoring 37 points from them. The Huskers gave the ball away 14 times. Nebraska used most of its roster; Arek Angui and Logan Nissley did not play because of lingering health issues and are expected back soon. The early win gave the team a chance to assess its progress, with tougher tests ahead in Big Ten play.
