Washington’s Late Rally Sends Nebraska to Third Straight Loss

Nebraska lost 17-10 to Washington at Memorial Stadium on October 31, surrendering a fourth-quarter lead and falling to 5-3. The Cornhuskers will try to end their losing streak against Illinois on Friday.
Nebraska’s early-season momentum took another hit on October 31, when Washington rallied for a 17-10 win at Memorial Stadium. The Cornhuskers have dropped three consecutive contests after opening the season with five victories, and each defeat came after they held a fourth-quarter lead.
Quarterback Anthony Colandrea put Nebraska ahead with a 24-yard touchdown pass to Carter Nelson, capping a 95-yard drive in the first quarter. Washington kicked a field goal before halftime, while Nebraska’s defense kept the Huskies largely in check. Washington had just 32 rushing yards and converted five of 15 third downs.
The Huskies took the lead with a fourth-quarter touchdown. Nebraska’s next possession ended when Colandrea’s pass was picked off by Washington’s Alex McLaughlin, who ran it back for a score, making it 17-7. Nebraska added a field goal, but could not close the gap. John Hohl made a 42-yard kick after replacing Kyle Cunanan, who had missed a 36-yard attempt earlier.
The result renewed questions about Nebraska’s offensive production and its ability to finish close games. The Cornhuskers face Illinois on the road Friday, aiming to snap the skid and secure bowl eligibility.
