On November 2, Vanderbilt coach Clark Lea gave injury updates ahead of the Commodores’ game at Mississippi State in Starkville, including two players ruled out for the season.

Vanderbilt will be without freshman running back Evan Hampton and linebacker Josiah Broxton for the rest of the season, coach Clark Lea said on November 2. The updates came as the Commodores prepared to play Mississippi State after a bye week and five consecutive losses, most recently against ranked Kentucky on October 24.

Hampton sustained a fracture in his lower leg during the Kentucky game. He was taken from the field on a cart and finished the season with seven carries for 18 yards.

Broxton tore an ACL during practice in the week before the Kentucky matchup. He appeared in seven games this season and made three tackles. Lea said Broxton is expected to have surgery when he is able.

Freshman linebacker Daniel Vollmer Jr. is likely to miss the Mississippi State game because of a hernia. Vanderbilt may get help elsewhere: defensive edge Brian Allen Jr., who sat out against Kentucky with an ankle injury, is expected to be available if he avoids a setback. Linebacker Jamison Curtis and cornerback Jaylin Lackey have resumed practicing after soft tissue injuries, and Lea said their availability could change this week.

Vanderbilt is scheduled to face Mississippi State in Starkville, with kickoff set for 3:15 p.m. Central Time; the game will air on SEC Network.
