Alabama’s Pass Rush Seeks More Sacks

Alabama’s defensive front is struggling to turn pressure into sacks, with Yhonzae Pierre and Fatutoa Henry leading the team at 3.5 each. The issue was discussed in Tuscaloosa on November 3, 2026.
Alabama’s defensive front has managed only sporadic sack production in recent weeks, after posting five sacks against Mississippi State. The Crimson Tide recorded one sack apiece in losses to Georgia and Tennessee, both credited to outside linebacker Yhonzae Pierre.
The unit had a stronger finish against Texas A&M: Fatutoa Henry brought down quarterback Marcel Reed twice in the fourth quarter. Pierre also drew a holding penalty on a play where he appeared poised to make a third-down sack.
Pierre and Henry share the team lead with 3.5 sacks through eight games. Pierre entered the season considered a possible first-round NFL draft pick, after recording eight sacks in 2025. He said he was not satisfied with his current production and that both he and the defense had areas to improve.
USC transfer Devan Thompkins has three sacks, but has gone five games without another and four weeks without a tackle for loss. Alabama’s front has players viewed as capable of making major plays, and Pierre said the group expects opportunities to come as the season continues. He added that the defense needs to keep applying pressure and take advantage when chances arise.
