Brian Kelly Says He Would Welcome Florida State Job

Florida State

Brian Kelly said on November 3 that he would be interested in coaching Florida State, whose head coaching position opened after Mike Norvell was fired.

Brian Kelly said on November 3 that he would welcome the chance to lead Florida State if the school approached him. The Seminoles’ job became vacant after the program fired Mike Norvell over the weekend. Kelly discussed the opening on SiriusXM’s College Sports Radio.

Kelly pointed to Florida State’s history, tradition and strong following, as well as his experience competing against the program. He described leading the Seminoles as an honor, while acknowledging that a coach without a job might be enthusiastic about any opening.

Kelly most recently coached LSU from 2022 through 2025, compiling a 34-14 record and winning three bowl games. The Tigers went 19-10 in Southeastern Conference play during his tenure and did not reach the College Football Playoff.

Before LSU, Kelly spent 12 seasons at Notre Dame. He recorded 92 wins and 39 losses, with playoff appearances in 2018 and 2020. Earlier, he coached Cincinnati from 2006 to 2009, finishing 34-6; the Bearcats went unbeaten in 2009 and ended the season ranked eighth in the Associated Press poll.
