Harbaugh Invites Trade Calls as Giants Weigh Deadline Moves

Giants coach John Harbaugh said on November 2 that New York is open to trade calls from anyone ahead of the November 10 NFL deadline. He said potential additions must fit the team’s needs, finances and longer-term plans.
John Harbaugh said the Giants are willing to hear trade proposals from people across the NFL as the November 10 deadline approaches. The coach said he left a voicemail for Tennessee Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk to ask about defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons before Simmons was traded to the Chicago Bears. Harbaugh said he did not speak with Strunk.
The outreach drew attention because trade discussions are generally handled by general managers. Harbaugh said there was no rule preventing him from contacting an owner, and that Giants general manager Joe Schoen knows whom he calls. The two are coordinating their search for possible additions.
Harbaugh said the team wants to improve but will not pursue a deal simply to make a short-term push. Any player would need to fill a need, match the team’s financial limits and offer value beyond this season. He also said the Giants want to protect the team’s existing locker-room cohesion.
New York has five picks in the 2027 draft, including its first-, second- and third-round selections and two sixth-rounders. Harbaugh did not rule out using 2028 draft capital, but said a deal involving picks should provide both immediate and lasting benefit. He cautioned that his call about Simmons should not be taken as an indication of what the Giants would have paid for him or another player.
