Bears’ Complete Performance Delivers Best Start Since 2012

The Chicago Bears beat the defending champion Seattle Seahawks 34-17 in Seattle on November 2, improving to 6-2 for their strongest start since 2012.
Chicago took control early and never fell behind, though Seattle narrowed the margin to 20-17 in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter. The Bears answered with two touchdowns to close out the win, their second straight victory over a team from last season’s Super Bowl matchup.
Quarterback Caleb Williams completed 24 of 34 passes for 247 yards and a touchdown, with no interceptions. He became the first quarterback this season to pass for more than 200 yards against Seattle’s defense. Williams has completed 70.9% of his passes this season and thrown just one interception on 158 attempts.
Running back D’Andre Swift scored three times. The decisive late sequence began when defensive end Austin Booker tipped a Sam Darnold pass, which defensive lineman James Lynch intercepted with 5:52 remaining. Chicago took possession at Seattle’s 6-yard line and Swift soon scored again.
New Bears defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, acquired from Tennessee last week in a trade involving two first-round picks, recorded his first sack for Chicago. His presence also helped create an opening for Montez Sweat to sack Darnold for a seven-yard loss in the third quarter.
The Bears are 6-2 after an 11-6 season, an NFC North title and a second-round playoff appearance last year. Their progress this season has included improved quarterback efficiency and a defense that has supported the offense. The team’s next challenge is to sustain that form as it pursues a championship.
