Seahawks’ Wild-Card Chances Face Growing Pressure

After an at-home 34-17 loss to the Chicago Bears, the 4-4 Seattle Seahawks sat eighth in the NFC standings after Week 8, as of November 3.
Seattle’s loss to Chicago was its heaviest since December 2024. The Seahawks are now 4-4, and their playoff prospects are becoming a more immediate concern as the season reaches its midpoint. They have also lost to the San Francisco 49ers, another of the NFC’s leading teams.
After Week 8, Seattle held the NFC’s eighth position, just ahead of the Los Angeles Rams, also 4-4. The Seahawks have the tiebreaker over the Rams: Los Angeles has lost both of its NFC West games, while Seattle is 1-1 in division play, with a win over Arizona and a loss to San Francisco.
The report put Seattle’s playoff probability at 50%, compared with 42% for Los Angeles. It identified the Rams and the three NFC North teams that do not win their division as the main competition for wild-card places. Seattle still has two games against Los Angeles, one against Arizona and one against San Francisco.
The Seahawks could still finish with a strong record, but even a 10-7 season may leave them needing to beat the Rams at least once to stay ahead of a fourth NFC North team. San Francisco leads the NFC West, and Seattle’s path to the postseason will get harder if it continues to lose.
