Avalanche Rally Past Blackhawks for Third Straight Win

Colorado erased an early two-goal deficit to beat Chicago 5-2 at the United Center on November 2, extending its winning streak to three games.
Chicago took a 2-0 lead in the opening eight minutes, with goals from Kaiser and first-year player Kantserov. Bedard assisted on Kantserov’s goal, extending his point streak to six games.
Colorado answered with five consecutive goals. Nazem Kadri scored twice and Jaden Schwartz added two goals, including Colorado’s equalizer just 26 seconds after Kadri’s first. Kadri put the Avalanche ahead in the second period while Bedard served a holding penalty. Schwartz scored late in the period to make it 4-2, and Devon Toews added an empty-net goal in the third.
Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 21 shots for Colorado. Chicago outshot the Avalanche 9-4 in the final period, but could not close the gap. The loss was the Blackhawks’ sixth in their last seven games.
Chicago also lost Patrick Kane, who left in the second period with an upper-body injury. Coach Jeff Blashill said Kane would miss at least a couple of games. Blashill said Chicago’s internal tracking showed the teams nearly even in scoring chances, but acknowledged the Blackhawks took too many penalties. Colorado converted its fifth man advantage and moved ahead for the rest of the game.
The Avalanche visit the Columbus Blue Jackets on November 3. Chicago’s next game is at the Florida Panthers on November 4.
