Flyers-Wild Swap Has Yet to Deliver for Either Young Player

On November 3, 2026, Philadelphia and Minnesota revisited the March trade that sent Bobby Brink to the Wild and defenseman David Jiříček to the Flyers, with both players still working to meet expectations.
On November 3, 2026, the Flyers and Wild were looking back at their March one-for-one deadline deal as the teams prepared to meet in Philadelphia. Minnesota acquired forward Bobby Brink, while Philadelphia received defenseman David Jiříček. The trade was intended to give each young player a fresh start, but neither has made the expected impact so far.
Brink, 25, has settled into a regular role with the Wild and recorded a goal and eight points in 16 games this season. Coach John Hynes called Brink’s recent two-assist performance against Washington his best game of the season, praising both his offensive instincts and growing attention to play away from the puck. Brink said playing near his hometown of Minnetonka and in front of family and friends gives him energy.
Jiříček, 22, has had a harder time finding consistent playing time in Philadelphia. He was scratched for seven of the Flyers’ first 16 games and played under 10 minutes in his most recent appearance, on October 19. Coach Rick Tocchet said Jiříček needs to avoid major errors, move the puck more quickly and trust his shot from the blue line. The Flyers had hoped his powerful shot could help their power play.
Jiříček’s skating remains an area of concern: NHL Edge data put his speed at 19.22 miles per hour, nearly two miles per hour below the league average. He acknowledged he is not among the league’s best skaters, but said he is working to improve and believes experience will help. He has also been studying from the press box when out of the lineup.
