Bruins Await Further Word on Matthew Poitras Injury

On November 4, Boston coach Marco Sturm said forward Matthew Poitras completed practice after a facial injury and could travel to Pittsburgh for Thursday’s game against the Penguins.
Boston Bruins coach Marco Sturm said on November 4 that Matthew Poitras stayed on the ice for the full practice, a positive sign as the team evaluates the forward’s injury. Sturm said the Bruins would assess Poitras again the following day before deciding what comes next.
The 22-year-old was hurt during Monday’s game against Vegas after Golden Knights forward Braeden Bowman elbowed him in the face in the second period. Bowman was assessed a five-minute major and a 10-minute game misconduct. Poitras returned to the bench after leaving the game but did not play again.
Sturm said Tuesday that Poitras had a doctor’s appointment scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and that the plan was for him to travel with the team to Pittsburgh. The Bruins are set to face the Penguins on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET.
Poitras began the season on injured reserve after sustaining a lower-body injury at training camp on September 22. He returned to the lineup on October 5 against Ottawa. In 12 games this season, he has four goals and three assists.
