Three Challenges Could Test Memphis’ Strong Start

The Memphis Grizzlies opened the 2026-27 NBA season 6-1, but injuries, tougher opponents and a possible drop in three-point accuracy could challenge them over the coming month. The assessment was published on November 4.
Memphis has started the season with a 6-1 record, ranking third in offensive rating, fifth in defensive rating and second in net rating. Its most recent game was an overtime loss to New Orleans, where Ty Jerome again demonstrated his scoring ability.
Health is one concern. Scotty Pippen Jr., a reserve point guard whose defense is important to the second unit, has been listed with a back herniation. Most of the roster has been available so far, but extended absences among key contributors could put pressure on the team’s depth.
The early schedule has also offered limited tests. Indiana, an upcoming opponent, is 2-6 and has dealt with injuries to Tyrese Haliburton and other players. Memphis will face Denver and Cleveland in the next couple of weeks, while later challenges include the Lakers, Rockets and Spurs.
Memphis has made 42.2% of its three-point attempts. Several players have posted especially high percentages, including Zach Coward at 57.7%, Isaiah Stewart at 57.1%, and Cam Spencer at 56%. Those figures may fall over time, so the Grizzlies could need other ways to score. The roster’s number of players capable of catching fire offers a potential cushion.
