Kansas Opens With 30-Point Win Over Fordham

No. 17 Kansas beat Fordham 95-65 in Lawrence on November 2, led by Tre White’s 22 points and Tyran Stokes’ 15 in his collegiate debut.
Kansas began its season with a 95-65 home victory over Fordham on November 2, though the Jayhawks needed a second-half surge to pull away. Tre White led the team with 22 points, while freshman Tyran Stokes scored 15 and grabbed seven rebounds in his first regular-season college game.
Fordham stayed close early in the second half, trailing 54-48 after making 13 three-pointers. Kansas then built control with a 19-3 run, using its size and athleticism to open a gap. The Jayhawks had struggled with turnovers and stretches of inaccurate shooting, and coach Bill Self called a timeout as the Rams’ perimeter shooting threatened to shift the game.
Leroy Blyden Jr. also scored 15 for Kansas, and Melvin Council Jr. added 10. Trey Kaufman-Renn, a transfer from Purdue who had missed the team’s exhibition games while his eligibility was resolved, came off the bench for nine points and five rebounds. White, Council and Kaufman-Renn had received court injunctions allowing them another year of NCAA eligibility.
Akira Jacobs scored 20 points for Fordham, which begins a three-game homestand versus Stonehill on November 5. Kansas hosts Middle Tennessee on Friday, its last home game until November 23. The win extended the Jayhawks’ run of victories in home openers to 54.
