Christian Watson’s Rib Injury Leaves Week 9 Status Uncertain

Green Bay Packers receiver Christian Watson is dealing with a broken rib and remains questionable for the Week 9 game against the New England Patriots. He was doing well early in the week, but his availability depends on how he progresses.

Watson was injured during Green Bay’s Week 8 game against Carolina and left with a rib injury. After coughing up blood on the sideline, he was taken to a hospital by ambulance, then returned to the stadium in the same vehicle and rejoined the game. He finished with eight catches for 113 yards on 10 targets, scoring 17.3 PPR fantasy points.

The Packers enter Week 9 with a 5-3 record. Watson places fourth leaguewide for receiving yards and third among receivers in fantasy production this season, but the broken rib puts his next appearance in doubt.

Green Bay passing game coordinator Jason Vrable described Watson as having rib soreness but doing well early in the week. Watson had extra recovery time after the Thursday night game and is listed as questionable. His practice participation later in the week will help clarify whether he can play against New England, whose defense ranks eighth in yards allowed.

If Watson is out, Matthew Golden could receive a larger share of the targets, with tight end Tucker Kraft also in line for more work. Golden stands seventh for receiving yardage over eight weeks and averages 16.4 PPR points per game, compared with Watson’s 18.4. Savion Williams could also see an increased role as Green Bay’s second wide receiver behind Golden, making him a potential fantasy flex option.

Players: Christian Watson, Tucker Kraft, Savion Williams, Matthew Golden
