Cowherd Calls Cowboys NFL’s Worst-Coached Team After Collapse

Colin Cowherd criticized Dallas after the Cowboys blew a 14-point fourth-quarter lead at home and lost to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 8. He called the team the NFL’s worst-coached and pointed to its 3-5 record.
Dallas led 24-10 in the fourth quarter against Arizona, but Gardner Minshew and the Cardinals rallied for the win. Minshew, a backup, threw three fourth-quarter touchdown passes. Cowherd said the loss marked a new low for the Cowboys and argued that the team’s coaching was at the heart of its problems.
Cowherd’s criticism focused on a pattern of defeats that he said had come in different ways. Dallas had also lost after allowing Baltimore to kick a field goal with seven seconds left, fallen to Tampa Bay while Jalon Daniels was its quarterback, and been outmatched by Green Bay. The Cowboys had lost to the Giants in Week 1 as well.
The team’s 3-5 start came despite having played what Cowherd described as the league’s fourth-easiest schedule. He also noted that the Giants, playing their third quarterback, led the division. Dallas had surrendered a 14-point lead at home to a Cardinals team led by a backup quarterback.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer has maintained confidence in his work, recently describing himself as an elite play-caller and calling himself a problem-solver after the Arizona loss. His record stood at 10-14-1, and the Cowboys’ poor results had put him under pressure.
